NIGHT DRIVE - GRABOUW 4X4 TRAIL
SUITABLE FOR BOTH THE EXPERIENCED AND NOVICE DRIVERS
21 JULY 2018

AN UNiQUE OPPORTUNITY TO DRIVE MOUNTAIN TRACKS AND TRAILS IN THE ELGIN VALLEY NOT OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AFTER SUNSET

General

The Grabouw Country Club will be the center point of the activities for the Night Drive and is situated in the pristine and tranquil Kogelberg Biosphere. It is here we will set camp for the full duration of the Grabouw 4x4 Night Drive. It is a hidden gem and another first for Cederberg 4x4. Although only an hour from Cape Town, you will feel as if you’ve left the city a 1000 miles behind. Surrounded by mountain ranges, natural vegetation and various fruit orchards this is an easy out and back to recharge your batteries and get in touch with Mother Nature. The location boasts breathtaking and spectacular views of the surrounding Hottentots Holland, Nuweberg and Groenland mountains. Combine this with the waterfront ambiance of the Eikenhof Dam and the flourishing fynbos blanketing the mountain slopes, this venue will leave you with an overwhelming sense of tranquility and enchantment.

Trail

The Grabouw 4x4 trail is a circular trail that traverses through the majestic Hottentots Holland and Groenland mountain ranges. Much thought and planning resulted in the Grabouw 4x4 trail as you will experience it today. Obviously when the trail was planned and built it was done with driving it during the day. The highlights like view-points with breath-taking views from the plateau and amazing waterfalls are only but a few you will experience during the day and will well award your effort. During the night when driving this trail you will experience a total different feeling upon reaching the plateau. As it is only six days before full moon, the starlit sky will form silhouettes of many shapes and sizes by the different mountains visible from the plateau. It is not the most demanding 4x4 trail but because of good planning when the trail was built it offers something special for drivers of all levels of experience. At the more difficult sections by-passes were brought in to accommodate the lesser experienced drivers. Capabilities of vehicles differ as that of the drivers. The 4x4 trail consists mainly of mountain tracks and rocks with small sections of sand that will keep your attention sharp due to the change of terrain. Driving any 4x4 trail at night immediately puts another perspective to your surroundings as well as the trail. On more than one occasion you will experience the feeling that the tail lights of the vehicle in front of you are your only lifeline back to your comfort zone.

General

We strongly recommend that you take something light to eat when we reach the plateau as it is about halfway through the trail. The Grabouw Country Club has allocated a special area to Cederberg 4x4 for the weekend to set camp and enjoy other social activities. There are sufficient flush toilets but no showers. The showers should not be a problem as rendezvous is only at 17h00 and we will depart some time the next morning for our interesting return journey home.
