VISSIES EN BROODJIES/FISH AND BREAD
VEHICLES WITH AND WITHOUT LOW-RANGE WELCOME
10 - 12 March 2017
Kuifkopvisvanger is a birding paradise located on the bank of the Berg River near the town of Veldrift, only 90 minutes from Cape Town. Over 180 bird species have already been identified on the farm with the Malachite Kingfisher inspiring the farm’s name. The sound of the Fish Eagle is a regular occurrence over the waters where several fish species wait to be lured to the surface.
This weekend is aimed at offering fun, family-friendly activities where interaction between all participants, young and old, is ensured. This will be the first time Cederberg 4x4 facilitates this type of activity and also the first time we will visit Kuifkopvisvanger.
The first competition for the weekend will start on Saturday morning and will be the fishing competition. There will be two age categories for the children, making it more exciting for all the children, as well as one for the adults. The winning child and adult in the individual categories will receive a great prize for their effort. Please remember to bring your cellphone or camera. A photo will be required to be submitted to the judges with each fish caught, showing the fisherman/woman/boy/girl, the size indicated on a ruler that will be supplied, the date and the time. The winners will be the ones with the most fish caught in the individual categories. Bring your heavy or light fishing tackle to catch that elusive one. Remember to bring your legal fishing permit.
The second competition takes place on Saturday afternoon. It will be a gourmet stokbrood competition for the children, once again taking place in the same two age categories as per the fishing competition. Parents are permitted to help the younger children. Dough, sticks and coals will be provided. What you add to your dough and how you present your stokbrood is up to you! Once again there will be great prizes up for grabs for the different categories.
There will be enough time after the stokbrood competition on Saturday afternoon to rent a canoe and paddle on the river. Alternatively you can bring your own canoe or paddle ski to explore the river. You may even consider bringing mountain bikes and explore some 8 km riverfront stretch along the banks of the Berg River.
This is a planned, fun-filled weekend for the whole family, creating excellent interaction between family members as well as participants attending the weekend activities. Alternative activities participants can consider during the weekend are to visit one of the many seafood eateries in the area, visit Dwarskersbos or Paternoster. Nobody can ever get bored when visiting the West Coast, it has so much to offer.
Kuifkopvisvanger offers camping right on the bank of the Berg River with grass underfoot and trees for shade. The ablution has hot showers and braais are provided. Each campsite has a power outlet.
A selection of self-catering cottages are available ranging from 2 to 10 sleepers. Each cottage has its own bathroom facilities, a fully equipped kitchen and towels and bedding are provided. See the cost below.
