Departing from Riemvasmaak we head for Pella, a unique mission station, where you will have the option of visiting the local landmark church or just exploring the town. Here we will be required to collect the permits for us to continue on the Namakwa 4x4 trail. We will continue on the Namakwa 4x4 trail to Klein Pella where we will set camp for one night. Here you will have the opportunity to buy good quality dates at very realistic prices. The Grootmelkboom, situated on the bank of the Orange River, will be your last destination on this All Exclusive Ladies Getaway, where you will set camp for two nights before heading home. Here you have the option of just relaxing at the camp or joining an official drive to Goodhouse, a deserted settlement where a ferry crossing was available before the independence of Namibia. Time is our biggest enemy as there is so much more to see and do in the area you will be visiting, requiring a return visit in the future.

14 – 22 OCTOBER 2017

Team introduction the first evening

Cederberg 4x4 has received numerous requests from past participating ladies not to have the official introductions of the individual teams on the first evening as normally done in the past. The time, effort and money spend on the preparation for the official introduction of each team on the first evening can rather be spend on contributing for fuel, food or other necessities for the getaway to the Kalahari and Boesmanland, making the getaway a lot more affordable. There will also be no lucky draw prizes on the last evening of the trip, once again saving the ladies money. However the normal questionnaire where the new camp captain will be voted for and one or two other questions with gift prizes from Cederberg 4x4 will still be applicable.

General information

This will only be the third long (9 x Days) All Exclusive Getaway Cederberg 4x4 will have facilitated over the past twenty years. Once again having received numerous requests for Cederberg 4x4 to facilitate a nine day trip for the ladies, here is the itinerary and loads of information to help you in your planning. Yes, longer trips take more planning with regard to getting leave at work, planning around domestic duties, school activities and lots more. Once this is complete the nice part begins in planning the trip with your friends that will share a vehicle with you. It is here that the trip really begins. Enjoy every moment of this pre-trip planning as this forms a big part of the trip and building comradery amongst people.

Itinerary information

After our rendezvous in Van Rhynsdorp you will head for Die Punt campsite on the bank of the Orange River close to Keimoes. Situated on an island in the Orange River with sufficient shade, grass underfoot and power points makes it an ideal destination for the first evening of the All Exclusive Ladies Getaway. An early arrival will ensure you have enough time to enjoy the beauty this camp has to offer.

Both the Kalahari and Boesmanland offer that something special to any visitor. Some of the places you will visit and activities you will partake in during this All Exclusive Ladies Getaway are driving the famous, thrilling Kalahari red dunes at the picture-perfect Loch Maree, where sundowners will be enjoyed, supplied by Namaqua Wines, the evening of our arrival. The following day you will drive the well-known Kalahari red dune 4x4 trail of Loch Maree through the Kalahari dunes and enjoy many game sightings en-route. The 4x4 trail will test your sand driving skills and offer difficult challenges for the hard core drivers, while escape routes are available for drivers not feeling comfortable with the extreme, difficult dune driving options.

No visit will be complete to this region if the well-known Riemvasmaak, with its unique hot springs, is not visited. Here you should have enough time to drive to the Gariep (Orange) River to enjoy a swim and light lunch or explore the town on foot. The town is history-filled with well-known people like Norbit, from the Voetspore series, who can be visited in his local restaurant keeping your attention for hours with his interesting life experiences, not only on Voetspore but also about Riemvasmaak. Unique coffee shops and eateries not found anywhere else can also be visited or just stop and talk to some of the friendly locals. Ensure you allow yourself enough time to spend at least an hour or two in the hot springs with mineral- revitalizing water that will leave you amazingly refreshed.

As this trip is going to be very popular we suggest you book immediately to secure your place in line with the booking conditions below to avoid disappointment, as we can only accommodate a limited number of ladies. All bookings will strictly work on a first-come-first-serve basis. Invite your friends and book now.

In Upington we will stop to replenish fuel before heading further north for Loch Maree. Depending on the time of our arrival, a circular drive to the Hakskeen Pan could be considered. The Hakskeen Pan is the venue where an attempt to break the world land speed record will be made later this year. Having set camp we will enjoy a game drive ending with sundowners overlooking some of the red dunes of the Kalahari. The stars above are so clear and bright, leaving you with a feeling that you can reach out and touch the stars. The following day we will drive the red dunes of the ever popular Loch Maree 4x4 trail. The trail traverses through beautiful red dunes with testing challenges throughout the day. The trail will keep your attention and make sure your adrenalin will flow faster than normal on more than one occasion. The views en-route are really worth the effort.

TUESDAY  to THURSDAY – Arrive 17 Oct – Depart 19 Oct 2017 (2 nights)

Our departure from Loch Maree heading for Riemvasmaak will take us past small towns like Bokhara and Noenieput. These are really small settlements with only a few people living there permanently. Life in these remote areas is testing and it takes a special type of person to live in these harsh, arid conditions. Riemvasmaak, our destination on this day is a very special place for many reasons. This was the first land returned to the original owners after the 1994 land restitution act. Today, some 23yrs later, Riemvasmaak is home to a large number of people having returned to their land of yesteryear. The highlight of your visit to Riemvasmaak will definitely be the natural hot springs situated in the canyon close to the camp. The following day is filled with options. An official drive to the junction of the Orange and Molopo Rivers will take place. Here a swim and a light picnic lunch can be enjoyed before returning to the camp. Alternatively you can visit the small town of Riemvasmaak and do a tour on foot through the town. Riemvasmaak really became well-known after Norbit, one of the elders, travelled with Johan Badenhorst on numerous “Voetspore” tours. Norbit and other residence took the initiative to open restaurants, private tea gardens and curio shops. The day can end by spending more time in the hot spring followed by a communal braai.

THURSDAY to FRIDAY – Arrive 19 Oct – Depart 20 Oct 2017 (1 night)

Departing from Riemvasmaak we will cross the Orange River over the new bridge at Blouputz. At Pofadder we will stop to refuel all the vehicles and buy wood for the next three nights. We will visit the historic church in Pella and the pump station by the Orange River before driving sections on the Namakwa 4x4 trail on our way to Klein Pella where we will set camp for the night. Dates can be purchased here at very realistic prices depending on availability. Having set camp we will drive and enjoy sundowners on the bank of the Orange River.

FRIDAY to SUNDAY – Arrive 20 Oct – Depart 22 Oct 2017 (2 nights)

Continuing on the Namakwa 4x4 trail we will pass many small settlements before reaching the Grootmelkboom where we will set camp for two nights. This is a very special place to set camp as you will really be only one or two meters away from the water. The following day we will drive to Goodhouse via the Namakwa 4x4 trail. Here the remains of past habitation can still be seen and the remains of the old pump station and ferry of many moons ago. Sunday morning after breakfast we will depart and head for Springbok where the All Exclusive Getaway officially ends.
