WAGON WHEELS 4X4
SOMETHING FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
15 – 17 JUNE 2018
WELL DESERVED FUN-FILLED WEEKEND BREAK IN THE KAROO FOR THE ADRENALIN JUNKIES
A MUST FOR THOSE THAT LIKE TO PUSH THE LIMITS
A perfect fun-filled weekend, last done 4 years ago by Cederberg 4x4 and a must for the adventure seekers and adrenalin junkies needing to push the limits but still stay within the safety parameters.
This trail is approximately 195 from Cape Town situated in the Waboomsberg Mountains with the Koo Valley as border in the south. It came into being when old mule wagon routes, which passed between Touwsriver and Montagu in the Waboomsberg Mountains, were used to build this 4x4 trail. The farm Koeniekraal has been in the Le Roux family for four generations and is a working farm. You can expect clean air, beautiful sunsets, star-filled skies, grazing sheep and goats on the farm, with the possible sighting of the ever elusive leopard and caracal in the foothills of the Waboomsberg Mountains.
This weekend will be more for the hard-core 4x4 enthusiasts; however it also caters for those who do not want to do the hard-core 4x4. We will be driving “The Chicken Run”, the “Ratel Route” and the “Witkruisarend Route.”
The “Witkruisarend Route” is suitable for all 4x4’s as it only has a rating of 2 stars. For those who like a bit of a challenge we will also do the “Ratel Route” which has a rating of 3-4. Good ground clearance on vehicles is important and front or rear diff locks a prerequisite. These names often become a point of discussion around camp fires with different opinions from drivers and passengers.
Witkruisarend trail as a 2-3
This trail is clearly marked and escape routes are available. The mountain section is rated 2 - 3 and has a very scenic view over the Koo and Keisie valleys. It starts with either the Plooiberg section or the Bergroete. This is a must for first time visitors. The Views are spectacular.
The “Chicken Run” Graded as a 3
This section of the trail offers passengers the opportunity to get out of the vehicles and take those very special action shots. Drivers will be required to walk some of the obstacles, choosing the lines of least resistance, discussing the various options with other drivers, ensuring excellent interaction with other drivers and passengers. This is always an ideal opportunity for good photos while observing the numerous attempts through the obstacles by drivers. It is here where drivers get to know his/her own capabilities as well as those of their vehicles. All this will be done under the watchful eye of an experienced guide ensuring a safe passage for all if all the rules of 4x4ing are adhered to at all times.
“The Ratel Route” Graded as a 3 - 4.
This is probably the most challenging section of any 4x4 trail in the Western Cape. Drivers will once again be required to walk sections of the trail, choosing the line of least resistance, as the route has very narrow, steep and step climbing sections that will have to be negotiated. Walking, choosing the correct lines and discussing the options with fellow drivers will minimize the risk of damage to vehicles. A rear or front diff lock is a prerequisite. A team effort will be required in packing and placing rocks in strategic places as there are no escapes on this section of the trail. So what go’s in at the bottom must come out at the top. This ensures good interaction among drivers and passengers.
This will be the second time Cederberg 4x4 visits the Wagon Wheels 4x4 trail after the Zip Line was completed and became an optional activity when visiting this well-known 4x4 trail. The Zip Line is made up of six separate sections crossing ravines and valleys to safe ending points. When booking it is essential to indicate if you intend riding the Zip Line, as the owner gets qualified outside people in to facilitate the Zip Line ride under strict supervision, ensuring the safety of participants. Zip slide is only available on Saturday.

Clay pigeon shooting is another activity you can partake in. Please take cash with (R10.00 a shot) if you want to partake as they have no card facilities. Please take note that this is only available on Saturday.
