DRIVE TEN PASSES IN THE CEDERBERG
Departing from our rendezvous in Agter Paarl we will head for Kardoesie via a scenic route starting with the picturesque Bainskloof Pass and Mitchell’s Pass to Ceres. We will continue up the Gydo Pass past the quaint settlement of Op-die-Berg and continue to Citrusdal via the Middelberg Pass. To reach our base camp for the weekend at Kardoesie Farm Stall, we will be required to negotiate the Piekenierskloof Pass. Although we will be driving Piekenierskloof Pass three times during the weekend it only counts as one of the passes to be driven over the weekend. Each one of the five different passes driven on the Friday will ensure their own uniqueness and highlights. From sharp hairpin bends to amazing views over the surrounding mountains and valleys. A longer but the more scenic route to the Cederberg.
On Saturday morning we will head for the central Cederberg via the Nieuwoudt Pass to Algeria and the Uitkyk Pass to the Stadsaal Caves. Here some time will be spent while the guide will share interesting information about the caves. Enroute to Wuperthal we will drive through Ezelbank and stop at the amazing rock pools in the river before continuing down a steep descent, now concrete surfaced, into Wuperthal. Some time will be spent in Wuperthal before driving up the Wuperthal Pass (aka. Kouberg Pass) to the Biedouw Valley. Departing from the Biedouw Valley we will drive up Hoek-se-Berg Pass enroute to Clanwilliam. Stops will be made at the Englishman’s Grave as well as C. Louis Leypoldt’s grave while also negotiating Pakhuis Pass, the tenth pass for the weekend. A stop will also be made at the Soldier’s Head, a natural rock formation just before Clanwilliam. An ablution stop will be made in Clanwilliam before taking the gravel road back to Citrusdal and back to Kardoesie Farm Stall.
KARDOESIE
Few people realize when either just passing or having stopped for the ever-popular Kardoesie coffee or your favourite off their menu, at Kardoesie Farm Stall at the top of the Piekenierskloof Pass on the N7, that they also offer top class chalet/rooms and a camp with lush green grass underfoot, trees, amazing sunset views, swimming pool and top-class ablution facilities. A bonus is that meat products, ice and wood can be replenished at the farm stall. You might even consider enjoying a meal at the restaurant, browse the bric-a-brac on offer and buy homemade preserves, dried fruit/nuts and many other delights. The swimming pool and the many tracks on the farm for mountain bikes and hiking make this an ideal family-friendly venue only 170km from Cape Town.

PLACE : De Vines Pub & Restaurant on the Malmesbury Road/R45. At the traffic light intersection of the R44 & R45 turn towards Paarl on the Malmesbury Road/R45. Continue approximately 3km past a big dam on your left to De Vines Pub & Restaurant on the left.

FRIDAY 3 APRIL 2026
09h00 - Rendezvous at De Vines Pub & Restaurant on the Malmesbury Road/R45 Agter Paarl.
- Briefing on the route for the day and the number of passes to be driven.
- Drive Bainskloof Pass, Mitchell’s Pass, Gydo Pass, Middelberg Pass and Piekenierskloof Pass.
- Enjoy a light picnic lunch en-route.
- Arrive at Kardoesie and set camp.
- Communal evening braai.
SATURDAY 4 APRIL 2026
- Enjoy breakfast at the camp.
- Briefing on the route for the day and the next 5 x passes we will drive.
- Depart on the Cederberg meander negotiating the Piekenierskloof Pass (2), Nieuwoudts Pass, Uitkyk Pass. Wuperthal Pass (aka. Kouberg Pass), Hoek-se-Berg, Pakhuis Pass and Piekenierskloof Pass
for the third time.
- Communal evening braai.
SUNDAY 5 APRIL 2026
- Enjoy a relaxing day at the camp utilizing the amenities the camp offers or visit the very well-known Kardoesie Padstal for something to eat or spoil yourself to something from the shop.

MONDAY 6 APRIL 2026
- Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and morning at the camp.
- Book Out Time is 10h00.
FUEL STOPS EN-ROUTE
Ensure that your vehicle is refuelled before getting to the rendezvous.
ABLUTION FACILITIES
Clean, regularly serviced, top-class ablution facilities with hot/cold showers and flush toilets. You cannot ask for anything better.
CATERING
Everyone must be totally self-sufficient for the duration of this trip.
GENERAL
• Please, no alcohol may be consumed by either the driver or passenger(s) at any time whilst driving. Respect your guide and your fellow participants and save the alcoholic beverages until we return to the camp each day.
• WATER - is available at the campsite. (Always advisable to bring own drinking water)
• WOOD - Can be purchased at the farm stall.
• WOOD – Each vehicle to supply at least 1 x bag of wood per night for the communal fire.
• ELECTRICITY – Electricity points throughout the camp. Bring your blue plugs.
• A communal braai area will be determined by the guide on arrival at the campsite.
• Only one fire permitted for the group.
• Consider bringing a portable braai to be used in the communal braai area.
• The days could be warm and the nights cooler. Pack clothing accordingly.
• Always advisable to wear comfortable closed shoes or boots.
• Remember to bring your bathing costumes.
• Advisable to have a broad rim hat and sun block on hand.
• Use tie-down straps to secure all items packed, as loose items can become missiles.
VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS
• All vehicles and Off-road trailers must be in sound mechanical condition.
• Always have your spare keys with you.
• Recovery points fitted to the front and rear on your vehicle are a prerequisite.
• Your own Kinetic/recovery strap and 2 x shackles will be advisable.
• A tyre pump and tyre pressure gauge will be required to deflate/inflate tyres. Pack where accessible.
• Carry a fire extinguisher which is easily accessible in the event of an emergency.
• Always carry your personal medical kit. Pack where accessible.
• All other recovery equipment will be supplied.
29MHz TWO WAY RADIOS
Communication between participating vehicles on any 4x4 excursion is important for many reasons. It ensures the safety of drivers, passengers and vehicles while on a 4x4 trail, where drivers can communicate with one another as regards to their location and situation, not to mention the interesting information that is shared with participants. The fun part is the many interesting stories that are shared among participants taking the boredom out of the long distances we need to travel to enjoy the great outdoors.
We suggest all 4x4 vehicles that don’t have a 29MHz two-way radio, HIRE one from us at a nominal fee of R250-00 for this excursion, especially if you are planning to drive the 4x4 Trails on the farm.
NB: Should you be hiring a 29MHz radio, please ensure that your lighter socket is working. If you intend running more than one item from the lighter socket, ensure to have a double adapter and spare fuses on hand.

NB: If your vehicle is fitted with a 29MHz radio, please make sure that channels 1, 14, 15 and 23 are open and working for this excursion.

• Cederberg 4x4 requires your completed and signed booking form together with your BANK EFT POP (proof of payment) via return mail for the trip and two-way radio hire if applicable to confirm you’re booking.
• Your completed and signed booking form binds you to the conditions on page one and two.
• Should you wish to cancel or withdraw from this excursion after returning your completed and signed booking form together with your BANK EFT POP (proof of payment) to Cederberg 4x4, you will be required to find a replacement before any credit or refunds are considered.
• Should you not arrive at the rendezvous to take part in this excursion or choose to leave the excursion before it officially ends, you will not be entitled to any refund.
